A career shaped by one question
Dr. Danousch Missaghian spent more than twenty-five years in German medicine, across senior hospital positions and his own private practice. He held the post of Chief Physician, Chefarzt, with the departmental responsibility that title carries in Germany. Most of those years were spent where ENT medicine, head and neck surgery and diagnostics meet.
He now consults in Dubai, at Quttainah Specialized Hospital on Al Wasl Road. The city brought a different set of patients: families from many countries, long seasons spent in air conditioning, and people who move between climates and time zones. The address changed. The way he works did not.
What defines his practice is a small habit, repeated. Before anything is treated, it is examined. He asks why a symptom is there, what is producing it, and whether the obvious answer is the right one. The endoscope goes on early, and the screen is turned so the patient can see it too.
The method
The consultation, step by step
A consultation here follows the same order every time. The history comes first, then the examination, then a conversation about what was found. Nothing is proposed before there is something to look at.
This order matters because ENT symptoms overlap. A blocked nose, a hoarse voice or a sense of imbalance can each come from several different sources, and the treatment has to match the one that is actually there. When surgery is indicated, it is discussed as one option among others, with what it involves explained in full.
- 1
Listen to the history
The appointment begins as a conversation. When the symptom started, what makes it better or worse, what has already been tried, and how it affects sleep, work and breathing. A large part of the answer is usually in this stage.
- 2
Look with the endoscope, together
The examination uses HD video-endoscopy, with KARL STORZ optics and ZEISS systems where the ear is involved. The screen faces you as well. You see the same image the doctor sees, and he explains it as he goes.
- 3
Treat the cause
The plan follows the finding, not the other way around. Some causes are managed medically, some call for allergy or hearing testing first, and some are surgical when surgery is the right option. You leave knowing what was found and what the next step is.
